About CHRISTOPHER M. WHELAN
Dr. Christopher M. Whelan, a graduate of SIU School of Medicine in Springfield, IL, completed a two-year urologic cancer and robotic surgery fellowship at the City of Hope. Board-certified in Urology, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL, in 1997, and obtained his MD from SIU School of Medicine in 2003. Recipient of the excellence in Academic Medicine research grant, Dr. Whelan furthered his expertise through a kidney cancer research fellowship at SIU in 2004. He completed a General Surgery and Urologic Surgery residency in 2009 and currently serves as a clinical assistant professor in surgery at UIC School of Medicine. Residing in Rockford with his wife, Dr. Sarah Whelan, who practices family medicine, Dr. Christopher M. Whelan focuses on the surgical management of urologic cancers. With over 500 robotic surgical procedures for prostate, bladder, and kidney cancers, he brings extensive experience in urinary conditions and urinary calculi removal. Published in numerous scientific journals, Dr. Whelan is a member of the American Urologic Association and is affiliated with medical facilities such as Javon Bea Hospital.
