About UMER AKBAR
Meet Dr. Umer Akbar, a board-certified neurologist specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of movement disorders. A graduate of the Medical University of the Americas, he completed his residency at Cooper University Hospital in Camden. Dr. Akbar's research focuses on diagnosing and managing movement disorders, and he is known for his expertise in various treatments, including deep brain stimulation evaluations, botulinum toxin injections, and post-operative programming. As co-director of the Movement Disorders and Deep Brain Stimulation Programs at Rhode Island Hospital, he is actively involved in patient care. Dr. Akbar is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the Movement Disorders Society and is affiliated with multiple medical centers, including Butler Hospital, Rhode Island Hospital, and the Providence Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
